“Our 13-year-old chose Scotland as our destination and had four goals: see castles, go on amazing hikes with waterfalls, eat haggis and listen to bagpipes.”Jeff & Heather McCormick

When Jeff and Heather asked us to help with their family holiday in May, their son had already made the most important decision: they were going to Scotland. He knew what he wanted to find there, too.

A wishlist worth listening to

Castles and waterfall walks, a taste of haggis and the sound of bagpipes: four wishes shaped the planning. We built three guided days into the family’s wider holiday, bringing history and time outdoors together without asking their son to choose between them.

From strongholds to the western glens

Their itinerary led out of Edinburgh to Stirling, with its castle, Wallace Monument and Bannockburn connections, before turning west towards Inveraray. From there, the plan continued across Rannoch Moor into Glencoe, with time around the Three Sisters and Glen Etive. Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel gave the final guided day a mix of history, film scenery and open water.

The unexpected favourites

A private bird-of-prey experience and a one-to-one fly-fishing lesson added something beyond the original wish list. Both became part of the family’s review: time to learn a new skill, get close to wildlife and share something they would remember together.

Help beyond the guided days

The family were travelling independently for part of their holiday. Alongside arranging accommodation, we helped with those logistics and suggested places to eat in Edinburgh. Afterwards, Jeff and Heather said they would not think twice about returning with us.

“We reached out to Scottish Luxury Experience to help plan part of our family trip in early May. Our 13-year-old chose Scotland and had four goals: see castles, go on amazing hikes with waterfalls, eat haggis and listen to bagpipes. They helped us fulfil that wish list and so much more.

The three guided days they planned took us from Edinburgh through Stirling and Inveraray, into Glencoe and on towards Glenfinnan. It was a wonderful way to bring history and the outdoors together for our family. There was a one-to-one fly-fishing lesson, a private bird-of-prey encounter, and so much local history shared along the way.

Scottish Luxury Experience also arranged excellent accommodation, helped with logistics for the parts of the trip without a guide, and recommended local restaurants in Edinburgh. We could not have asked for more. Highly recommended—we wouldn’t think twice about using them for our next trip!”
