“Scottish Luxury Experience made our 30th anniversary that much better.”Eric Ferguson

For Eric and Charlyn, thirty years together called for a trip that felt like them. They wanted Scotland’s history and scenery, but also small places with character, good local food and time to enjoy each other’s company. We planned their April anniversary journey around those preferences.

Their kind of celebration

The brief was personal and refreshingly clear: welcoming hotels and lodges, places where people have time to talk, and evenings in local inns rather than a formal occasion every night. We used that as our starting point. The anniversary mattered, but so did the everyday pleasure of being somewhere new together.

From Stirling to the western glens

The route we put together began around Stirling, with its castle and old town, before heading through Perthshire towards Rannoch Moor and Glencoe. Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel brought the journey further west. We left room for short walks, waterfall stops and time beside the lochs, with a local driver-guide taking care of the roads and the day’s arrangements.

A day by the water

Fishing was part of Eric’s wish list, and their photographs show how that time became part of the anniversary album: a catch held over clear water, chairs on the shore, and good company beside the water. Alongside the castles and Highland views, there was space for a quieter kind of day. A plate carrying a chocolate “Happy Anniversary” added another small reminder of what had brought them here.

Harbours, music and island time

The west-coast part of their itinerary led through Oban and Loch Melfort, then across to Mull. We planned the island visit around Tobermory and the Mull Music Festival, with time for the waterfront and the surrounding coast. Their album brings that part of Scotland into view: colourful harbour buildings, blue water and a ferry crossing towards the islands.

Already looking forward to the next visit

Afterwards, Eric wrote about the people who had made their thirtieth anniversary even more special. That connection has lasted. Eric and Charlyn have already booked to return with us, and we’ve become lifelong friends. We’re looking forward to welcoming them back and picking up where we left off.

“Scottish Luxury Experience were a pleasure to spend time with. They made our 30th anniversary that much better, and we’re so glad they were part of such a special trip for us.

It was lovely to mark thirty years together in Scotland and meet people who became much more than a team taking us on a trip. We came home with lifelong friends.

We originally hoped to travel with them again. Now we’ve already booked to come back, and we’re looking forward to seeing them again.”
