“Packed tour with so much history and gorgeous landscapes.”Ed Holton

Ed came to Scotland with an interest in the places his clan relations might once have lived, worked and fought. The journey brought that history together with the landscapes around it.

Following the places that mattered

Ed came with an interest in where his clan relations might once have lived, worked and fought. We planned six days through Stirling and MacDonald country around Glencoe, then out to Skye and back through the Great Glen. Family history helped give the route its shape.

Clan history in the landscape

The plan paired Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel with walks around Glencoe, and included clan connections on Skye around Armadale and Dunscaith. It also made room for the island’s cliffs, pools and viewpoints. For Ed, history and the outdoors belonged in the same journey.

The road back to St Andrews

Loch Ness and Culloden formed part of the return route, with a journey south through the Cairngorms and the Hermitage before St Andrews. Characterful accommodation kept the emphasis on the places and experiences rather than formality.

Room to linger

A full itinerary still left space to spend more time in places that interested him. That flexibility was one of the things Ed chose to mention afterwards, alongside the food, accommodation and support from us. His closing thought was uncomplicated: he would love to do it all again.

“Scottish Luxury Experience were excellent. I wanted to see the places where my clan relations were likely to have lived, worked and fought, and they planned a journey that brought those connections together with Scotland’s landscapes.

The route linked Stirling and Glencoe with Glenfinnan, Skye, Loch Ness and St Andrews. It was a packed tour, full of history and gorgeous scenery, but with the flexibility to spend more time in the places that interested us. That made it feel like our own journey.

The food and accommodation were very enjoyable too. I would love to do it all again with Scottish Luxury Experience.”
